Morts

Morts Pretty straightforward rock with poppy hooks, but tied together with fuzzy, psychedelic overtones! It brings to mind The Duke Spirit in a rather strong way... Which goes to prove that Snapper were ahead of their time, this EP having been originally released in 1988. What a little gem! Favorite track: Buddy.

Richard RR Kinda like Moon Duo or Wooden Shjips or vice versa. Great! Favorite track: Buddy.

Saucer High energy postpunk Krautpop from New Zealand. (If someone had played "Buddy" for me last week and said it was Electrelane, I would have believed it. But it's from 1989.)

Been a fan of kiwi bands since The Bats' first LP but I'd never heard of Snapper till Flying Nun rereleased this EP in April 2013. Just love it. Favorite track: Buddy.

about

FNLP110 (1988/2013). Under Exclusive License to Flying Nun Records.

One of two Flying Nun EP re-issues for Record Store Day, Snapper’s self-titled EP is packed with dark, spaced-out pop jams.

The Dunedin band’s debut was released in 1988 with the 12-inch quickly going out of print. This limited 12” vinyl re-issue is an exact replica of the release and comes with a copy of the original A3 Snapper EP poster.

Snapper, the brainchild of Peter Gutteridge (founding member of The Clean, and The Chills), quickly became known for their swirling walls of distorted guitar and keyboards. Opening with the hypnotic organ jam "Buddy", the Snapper EP captures them in all their space-freak-out glory.

Or as the original press release put it; “It’s bad guitars finding a groove and digging it deep as it’ll go. A big insistent beat that proves repetition ain’t always synonymous with monotony – all tempered with an ever-present pop sensibility.”
